Understanding SEO, SEA, SMO, and SEM
Key Strategies for Digital Marketing Success
Our goal is for you to worry little to not at all about the technical aspects of running an online store or any website. That’s why we use simple terms and avoid going into technical details.
  • SEO: This involves getting your website pages (such as your products) to appear at the top of search results on Google (or other search engines). The goal is to rank #1 for each relevant query. Example: You sell organic cosmetic products, like “organic handmade soap.” When you search for “organic handmade soap,” the aim is to appear at the top of Google’s results. SEO encompasses all the efforts to achieve this goal.
  • SEA: This involves appearing at the top of search results on Google by paying for ads. Example: You sell red socks. SEA means paying Google to display your products when someone searches for “red socks.” There are different strategies: you can pay for each display of your products or pay each time a user clicks on your product.SMO: This involves promoting your products on social media. Example: Advertising on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc.
  • SMA: This encompasses all these strategies (SEO + SEA + SMO).
  • Marketplaces: These are websites where you can list your products for a fee. This fee might be a commission on each sale, a subscription fee, etc. Examples: Amazon, CDiscount, Shopee, eBay, etc.
